On December 27, 2019, the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation held a meeting to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of APEC in Beijing. Huang Mengfu, vice chairman of the 10th and 11th CPPCC National Committee, Wang Xiaolong, director of the Department of International Economics of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Wang Jiesheng, a former senior APEC official, attended the commemorative meeting. Professor Liu Chenyang, director of the APEC Research Center and vice president of the China Pacific Economic Cooperation National Committee, was invited to attend the meeting and make a speech.
Honorary President Huang Mengfu said in his speech that since the establishment of APEC 30 years ago, the international situation has developed rapidly, and cooperation has always been the mainstream of the region. However, protectionism and unilateralism are on the rise. The driving force of economic development and the weight of production factors have also changed, and the role played by science and technology, innovation and high-tech personnel has become increasingly important. China's proposal of Belt and Road Initiative and advocating the building of a community with a shared future for mankind conforms to the trend of the times and is conducive to the development of all mankind. APEC has delivered positive energy well over the past few decades, and it is all the more necessary for international organizations such as APEC and the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council to play a greater role in leading regional and global development on the right track.
The participants discussed the achievements and shortcomings of APEC in the past 30 years, the new agenda of APEC in the post-2020 era, the current trend of globalization and the new progress of regional cooperation, the strategies and countermeasures for China's participation in regional cooperation, and suggestions for carrying out research and work in the future.
