Professor Chang Jianhua published “Marriage and Family of Woman in Ancient China”
In October 2020, China Workers' Publishing House published “Women's Marriage and Family in Ancient China” by Chang Jianhua. The book has 360,000 words and divided into three parts.
The part one discussed the marriage of ancient China. Pro. Chang gives a comprehensive and systematic account of ancient marriage by integrating the existing academic achievements in the academic circle and adding some gains from reading historical materials.
The part one analyzes the ancient woman, which includes serial articles written by Pro. Chang. As the "half of the sky", women were always important in ancient social life. Modern women's status is constantly improving, women’s self-cognition and social perception of women also have significant changes. People often talk about the characteristics of oriental women and traditional women. If we want to know today's women, we must know their past.
Part three focuses on family. This part is a collection of related articles of the Professor. In this section, the emphasis is on the cohabitation of the extended family and clan rules and instructions. Taking Henan and Jiangsu in the middle of Qing Dynasty as examples, this part analyzes the basic situation of population, marriage and family, so that readers can have some understanding of the traditional society.
Two articles are included in the appendix, both of all are the excellent work. “Overview of Chinese Women and Marriage Family History Study since the Reform and Opening up” is for those who hope to expand reading. And “Attitudes and Positions: Some Views on Marriage and Family in Ancient China” was published in the Chinese Women's Newspaper, which explored the relationship between traditional culture and modern social civilization, based on the modern problems and responded to the reality.
