Nankai University has always attached great importance to the financial assistance for students from families with financial difficulties by actively taking various measures to establish a complete financial assistance system for students’ stable study and health development. We hereby solemnly promise that Nankai will always ensure the continuous study of any students who are forced to drop out of school due to financial difficulties.
- Green Channel and Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack for new-enrolled needy students:
(I) Introduction to Policies
Green Channel and Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack for new-enrolled needy students are policies to defer payment of tuition and accommodation fees for students who are unable to pay on time due to financial difficulties, as well as material support for all students with financial difficulties during the new students' enrollment. Nankai University attaches great importance to the enrollment of new students with financial difficulties and the financial assistance during their study by setting up Green Channel for new-enrolled needy students at a prominent place in the orientation to ensure that new students with financial difficulties can go through the enrollment procedure smoothly and enroll quickly. Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack represents great concern of Nankai University for students with financial difficulties.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
Green Channel refers to the mechanism established by Nankai University to ensure the smooth enrollment of new students who cannot pay all or part of their fees in time due to financial difficulties.
Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack is a material support for new-enrolled students with financial difficulties, including meal fees, teaching material fees, living supplies, beddings, and telephone bills, etc.
(III) Application Procedure
1. Green Channel
New students can log on to New-enrolled Student Service Website for online enrollment, select Yes in the column of Select Green Channel, and go through the normal enrollment procedure on the enrollment day.
2. Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack for new-enrolled needy students
New students can log on to New-enrolled Student Service Website for online enrollment, select Yes in the column of Apply for students with financial difficulties, and fill in the financial situation of family truthfully. A qualified student will receive a financial assistance card of Nankai Zhuniqihang (help you set sail) Pack on the enrollment day and follow the instructions on the card to receive the supplies.
- Grants:
(I) Introduction to Policies
Grants refer to the policies of providing financial assistance to students with national and social funds to ensure the successful completion of their studies. At present, grants of Nankai University have achieved 100% coverage for students with financial difficulties.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
1. National Grants
It is jointly set up by the central and local governments to subsidize full-time undergraduate students with financial difficulties at a rate ranging from RMB 2,800 to 3,800 per person per academic year.
2. Grants from Social Donations
It is jointly set up by donations from the society and alumni to support full-time undergraduate students with financial difficulties. At present, Nankai University has more than 20 grants from social donations, such as L'Oreal Grant and Fu Hui Grant, at a rate ranging from RMB 1,000 to 6,000 per person per academic year.
(III) Application Procedure
1. Students submit relevant documents to their colleges. Then the College Student Financial Assistance Leading Group determines each student's financial difficulty level.
2. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University issues the number of grants to each college.
3. Students apply for grants to their colleges.
4. The Student Financial Assistance Leading Group of the College examines the students' applications and submits them to the Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University.
5. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University reviews the list of students' applications and issue the grants.
- National Student Loans:
(I) Introduction to Policies
There are two types of national student loans: Locally-Granted Student Credit Loan and Campus-based National Student Loan, one of which can be selected by students during their study period. National Student Loans are bank loans to help students with financial difficulties to pay for tuition, accommodation fees and living expenses during their college years, led by the government, subsidized by the Ministry of Finance, operated by banks, education administration departments, colleges and universities, with the Ministry of Finance, colleges and universities jointly giving banks a certain amount of risk compensation.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
1. Locally-Granted Student Credit Loan
It is a kind of National Student Loan applied and handled by full-time undergraduates, students of second bachelor degree and postgraduates with financial difficulties in ordinary colleges and universities through the student funding management agencies in counties (cities or districts) where their permanent residences are registered, or applied directly to the relevant financial institutions in some regions, with students and parents as co-borrowers for co-repayment responsibility.
According to the current policy, the maximum amount of Locally-Granted Student Credit Loan applied by each undergraduate student per academic year is no more than RMB 8,000 in principle.
2. Campus-based National Student Loan
It is a kind of National Student Loan applied and handled by full-time undergraduates, students of second bachelor degree and postgraduates with financial difficulties in ordinary colleges and universities to banks through the student financial assistance department of the university.
According to the current policy, Campus-based National Student Loan is operated in a mode of one-time application, one-time granting and issue in installments. And the maximum amount applied by each undergraduate student per academic year is no more than RMB 8,000 in principle. Currently, Campus-based National Student Loan in Nankai University is operated by Bank of China.
(III) Application Procedure
1. Locally-Granted Student Credit Loan from China Development Bank
(1) The student should register with the student online service system of China Development Bank.
(2) After applying online, the student should bring the following documents to the funding management center of the county for loan.
ID card, co-borrower’s ID card, admission notice (or student ID), household register, loan application form stamped by the qualification examination unit (which can be exported through the online service system), and other documents required by the funding management center of the county.
Please consult the funding management center of the county for specific requirements.
(3) The student will sign the contract, get the contract copy and acceptance certificate.
(4) Enrollment
The student should submit the acceptance certificate to the teacher in charge in the university. The teacher of the funding management center in the university will enter the receipt information in the student loan system.
(5) Query of loan acceptance status
The student can check the acceptance status through the online system.
(6) The student credit loan from China Development Bank is expected to be issued in early December of the year.
2. Campus-based National Student Loan from Bank of China
(1) The student should prepare the following documents:
Application Examination and Approval Form of National Student Loan of Bank of China, copy of the ID card, copy of the student ID, Application form of National Student Loan, and authorization letter for query of personal credit information.
The above documents can be downloaded from the website of funding management center in Nankai University at the link of zzzzx.nankai.edu.cn.
(2) The university will organize the review of the documents after the start of academic year.
(3) The student will sign a loan agreement with the bank after the bank's approval.
(4) The national student loan from Bank of China campus is expected to be issued in May of the following year.
- Work-study:
(I) Introduction to Policies
Work-study refers to the activities that students, who have the ability to work in their spare time, following the principle of voluntariness, choose their own positions after strict examination under the organization of the university, in order to promote the quality-oriented development with dedication to public interests and acquisition of all-round capability through their own labor, develop their talents, and receive certain remuneration to improve their study and living conditions. Work-study is an important part in terms of student financial assistance and an effective way to improve the students' quality-oriented development with dedication to public interests and acquisition of all-round capability, and to support students with financial difficulties.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
With the mission of serving the society based on campus, work-study in Nankai University provides students with various positions that are suitable for students and beneficial to their abilities. While organizing work-study activities, Nankai Univerisity insists on open information and fair competition. Under the same conditions, priority will be given to students with financial difficulties to help them complete their studies successfully.
Students' participation in work-study activities should be limited to holidays or after-school hours, which should not exceed 8 hours per week in general during the semester or 10 hours per week in general under special circumstances. The university sets up the work-study positions on campus according to the total working hours of work-study needed in a semester (20 working hours × the total number of students with financial difficulties). Work-study positions are divided into fixed positions and temporary positions, where fixed positions refer to long-term positions lasting for more than one semester and continuous positions during winter and summer vacations; temporary positions refer to short-term positions that are completed through one or several work-study activities.
According to the relevant national regulations, the university raises funds from various sources and sets up special funds for work-study activities to support the implementation of work-study activities and pay students' remuneration; to strengthen the ideological and political education for work-study students and help them establish a correct concept of labor; to commend and reward students who have outstanding performance in work-study activities.
(III) Application Procedure

- Temporary Hardship Grant:
(I) Introduction to Policies
It is designed to help students who have difficulties in completing their studies due to unexpected accidents during the semester for relief of their financial pressure.
(II) Application Procedure
1. The student should submit a written application with the details on temporary hardship and the reasons for hardship, as well as the relevant certificates;
2. Class leaders and counselors should fully investigate and understand the hardship and write the opinion;
3. The college will review students' documents and fill in the application form. The Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in charge of student work will write the opinion.
4. The application materials are submitted to the Student Financial Assistance Management Center for review and signed approval.
5. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University will report to the Financial Department, which would issue the grant to the student's Pacific Card from Bank of Communication.
-Tuition payment on behalf of students:
(I) Introduction to Policies
The policy of tuition payment on behalf of students is a financial assistance policy formulated by Nankai University in accordance with the actual situation of the university and the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipality. It aims to support and help students with financial difficulties to complete their studies successfully.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
1. The university will pay 50% of the tuition for students whose permanent residences are registered in Tianjin, and father or mother is entitled to the minimum subsistence allowance as well as who are eligible for payment on behalf of students.
2. In the event of a major accident or disaster happened to the student or his/her family, the university will pay a certain percentage of tuition on behalf of the student after discussion by the Student Financial Assistance Leading Group of Nankai University based on the actual situation submitted by the student.
(III) Application Procedure
1. The student should apply to the college and submit the following documents:
(1) For students whose permanent residences are registered in Tianjin, and father or mother is entitled to the minimum subsistence allowance:
Original and copy of the Tianjin Minimum Subsistence Allowance Receipt Certificate issued by the Tianjin Civil Affairs Department within the validity period;
Certificate of tuition remission issued by the Civil Affairs Department of the District;
Original of Household Register.
(2) For students who have suffered from a major accident or disaster in themselves or their families: their written applications or the recommendation of the college.
2. The original of the relevant documents will be returned to the student after evaluation by the class group and the review by the college. The preliminary list will be announced in the college.
3. Application documents will be submitted to the Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University for review and filed in the Registration Center of Nankai University.
- Study Abroad Grant:
(I) Introduction to Policies
It is funded by the university and donated by the society to support students with good academic performance and financial difficulties for short-term academic exchange abroad. At present, the exchange places of students in Nankai University have covered many countries or regions such as the United States, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
Study Abroad Grant mainly aims to cover the cost of procedures for processing abroad, round-trip transportation fees between mainland China and the destination, tuition, insurance fees and other relevant fees during the period of study abroad. For more details, please refer to the standard for fees of academic exchange programs issued by the Office for International Academic Exchanges. The duration of the academic exchange programs is generally no more than 6 months. And the amount of funding depends on the specific conditions of the academic exchange program, which is RMB 5,000-20,000 per person per program.
(III) Application Procedure
1. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University will issue the specific content and requirements of the academic exchange program;
2. The college will organize eligible students to apply voluntarily and make recommendations according to the requirements of the academic exchange program;
3. Applicants should submit application documents according to the requirements of the academic exchange program;
4. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University will examine the qualifications and application documents of applicants. The outcome will be made public;
5. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University, together with relevant departments, colleges and student representatives, will form an evaluation committee and conduct public interviews to select the applicants, determine the target and amount of financial assistance;
6. The Student Financial Assistance Management Center of Nankai University will announce the final evaluation results.
-Off-campus Exchange Grant:
(I) Introduction to Policies
As the scale of off-campus exchange for undergraduates in Nankai University continues to expand and diversify, Exchange Grant is set up for off-campus exchange students based on the personal burden of students, the cost of training and management services of the university.
(II) Interpretation of Policies
Students who have completed more than one semester of off-campus exchange study should pay the fees of off-campus exchange study on their own according to the relevant exchange agreement approved by the university. After returning to the university following the exchange period, students can apply for Exchange Grant according to the following amounts:
1. The courses and credits taken by students during their off-campus exchange are required to be registered and recognized by the university. Only those who are qualified according to the relevant regulations can apply for the Exchange Grant, which is no more than half of the tuition in one academic year (semester);
2. If the courses and credits taken by students during their off-campus exchange are not required to be registered or recognized by the university, the Exchange Grant should be no more than four fifths of the tuition in one academic year (semester);
