采用理论与计算化学来研究化学问题,主要从事激发态动力学,人工和自然光合作用,以及可再生能源的研究,在发展构建高精度势能面的方法用于研究高能分子碰撞和光化学反应,以及用于生成太阳燃料的自然与人工光合作用的理论研究中取得一系列创新性研究成果。目前已在Nat. Comput. Sci.、Nat. Chem.、PNAS、JACS等杂志发表论文40余篇。
