After careful preparation, the four day academic event attracted over 340 experts, scholars, business representatives, practitioners in the field of optics, and graduate students from 15 countries around the world, providing a valuable exchange platform for the academic and industrial communities. During the conference, they discussed the ultrafast phenomenon and the forefront of terahertz science, talked about the development prospects of optical technology, and contributed wisdom and enthusiasm to promoting the development of the optical industry.

On site of the conference

On the morning of September 9th at 9:00 am, the conference opened on time. The chairman of the conference, Professor Liu Weiwei from the Institute of Modern Optics at Nankai University, and one of the initiators, Professor Zhang Xicheng from the University of Rochester, delivered speeches respectively, welcoming colleagues from the optical industry at home and abroad to attend the conference. We hope that everyone can fully exchange and share the academic event, and we also thank the organizers, co organizers, attending experts, scholars, and sponsors for their strong support. The opening ceremony of the conference will be presided over by Professor Liu Weiwei, the chairman of the conference.

Welcome speeches by Professor Zhang Xicheng and Professor Liu Weiwei

A total of 6 conference reports were set up for this meeting. From Professor Zhang Xicheng of the University of Rochester, Professor Daniel Mittleman of Brown University, Professor Cheng Ya of East China Normal University, Professor Lu Peixiang of Central China University of Science and Technology, Professor Katsumi Midorikawa of the Japan Institute of Chemistry (RIKEN), and Professor Alexey Kimel of Neimeiheng University, they are classified as "Be Water, My Friend", "Near field Terahertz Networking" The conference was presented with exciting conference reports titled "Thin film lithium niobate: enabling an exponential era of Moore's law for integrated photonics", "Strong field ultra fast optics and precision measurement of transient processes", "The Third Generation Attention Light Sources", and "Ultrafast Magnetism of Antiferrogrids", In-depth exploration of the latest developments and research progress in relevant fields both domestically and internationally. Plenary session

This session has set up two special topics: terahertz science and technology and ultrafast phenomena, covering various research directions in the field of terahertz and ultrafast phenomena. Under the careful organization of the chairpersons of each topic, there were nearly 120 invited and invited reports, 102 oral reports, and posted reports. The attending experts conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions in fields such as terahertz science and technology and ultrafast phenomena. These reports not only include the most cutting-edge research progress in the field in 2023, but also highlight innovation and cutting-edge nature. The conference provides a platform for scholars from all walks of life to deeply explore these key areas, promoting the dissemination of knowledge and the advancement of cutting-edge research.

Branch venue report

At the same time, a variety of special forums and academic activities such as the "Terahertz and Ultra Fast Technology Forum" were held, promoting in-depth exchanges between academia and industry, and building a good platform for scientific research transformation and industrial landing in the optical field. At the same time, Professor Wu Xiaojun from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was invited to have a face-to-face lecture with participating students in the "How to Give a Good Academic Report" public welfare classroom, where a two hour sharing lecture was held. The key points and basic requirements of the academic report, as well as the experience of preparing for the report, were discussed and passed on to the students on site. On the morning of September 10th at 6:20 am, a Terahertz Running Club (TRC) was held, consisting of researchers and related personnel who are engaged in teaching, research and management in the field of Terahertz and related scientific research, and love running sports. The participating members participated extensively in the morning running at the seaside of Shilaoren, creating a beautiful scenery.

Terahertz Running Team

It is worth mentioning that the conference set up the Zhang Xicheng Award for the first time to commend researchers who have made outstanding contributions in the field of terahertz science, technology and application. The first winners were Professor Wu Jingbo of Nanjing University, Li Hua, a researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, Professor Wu Xiaojun of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Yiwen E of Rochester University. At the same time, in order to encourage more students to participate in academic exchanges, after undergoing preliminary letter reviews and on-site meetings, excellent student papers and excellent posted reports were evaluated at this meeting. At the same time, the award-winning representatives were commended at the conference dinner.

During the conference, a volunteer team consisting of over 20 graduate students in the field of optical engineering from the Modern Optics Research Institute of Nankai University assisted the conference affairs team in on-site registration, team reporting, branch venue services, academic forums, and other logistics support positions, providing volunteer services for all attending expert representatives. These graduate students have fulfilled their volunteer duties with full enthusiasm, dedicated work attitude, and professional service level, fully demonstrating their spiritual demeanor. These young volunteers not only performed outstandingly in providing services, but also gained high praise and full recognition from attending experts and conference organizers. Their dedication added a special radiance to the success of the conference.

The International Symposium on Ultrafast Phenomena and Terahertz Waves (ISUPTW) was jointly initiated by renowned experts both domestically and internationally in 2002 and has been successfully held for eleven sessions. Since the sixth session in 2012, ISUPTW conference papers have been indexed by Ei Compendex and have become one of the most important academic conferences in the field of ultrafast phenomena and terahertz wave research both domestically and internationally. This seminar not only encourages academic exchange, but also continuously promotes the expansion of thinking and actively attracts the integration of the optical industry. It cleverly combines ultrafast optics with terahertz science, building a strong bridge for promoting the dissemination of optical knowledge and cooperation between industry and academia, and contributing greatly to the progress of the optical field and the integration of industry, academia, and research.
