On September 11, Niu Wenli, Deputy Secretary of CPC NKU Committee and Director of NKU Publishing Research Institute, led a delegation to visit Tianjin Publishing and Media Group Co., Ltd. (TPMG) for discussion and exchange. He held talks with Ban Feng, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Chairman of TPMG.
Niu Wenli introduced the recent progress NKU has made in the construction of the publishing discipline. He said that fruitful results have been achieved in the construction of the publishing discipline thanks to the joint efforts of NKU and the Publicity Department of CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, as well as the strong support of TPMG. In terms of discipline construction, NKU was among the first batch successfully approved to establish the doctoral degree authorization point in publishing in China. In terms of expertise building, a publishing talent pipeline has been initially established, and the faculty size is gradually expanding. In terms of talent cultivation, a comprehensive undergraduate-to-doctoral talent cultivation system has been developed. In terms of education practice, an industry-education integration postgraduate workstation jointly applied by NKU and TPMG has been approved by Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. In terms of think tank contribution, the research team has submitted a number of advisory reports and policy reports on international publishing, copyright study and digital publishing. Looking ahead, Niu Wenli expressed hopes for in-depth cooperation with TPMG to jointly build a liberal arts laboratory, attract industry professionals to serve as mentors, as well as further advance collaborative research projects, research findings transformation, and student internship arrangements to achieve substantial results.
Ban Feng welcomed Niu Wenli and his delegation. He said that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has outlined a bright future for the publishing industry. The publishing industry in Tianjin will thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session, and promote the reform in the publishing system and mechanism integration. Artificial intelligence now in the ascendant has brought new trends to the publishing industry. The deep integration of industrial digitalization and digital industrialization is irreversibly driving the digital transformation of the publishing industry. TPMG is in urgent need of high-quality publishing talents in digital publishing, copyright trading, as well as gaming and e-sports. To address the difficulties, pain points, and bottlenecks in the development of the publishing industry, deep and long-term exchange-based collaborative efforts with NKU’s publishing discipline are urgently needed in discipline development, think tank research work, and industry-education integration. NKU is a renowned institution of higher learning with a profound foundation in the publishing discipline, a well-established talent cultivation system, and a strong faculty team. Building on previous successes, TPMG will continue to deepen its cooperation with NKU, establish cooperative mechanisms, assign responsibilities to specific individuals, empower each other, work together for advancement, and jointly serve the high-quality economic and social development in Tianjin.
