On Sep.25th,2022, the lecture “Self-cultivation of Law Students: Learning and Thinking” aimed for freshmen of Law School was successfully held. This lecture is one of a series of lectures on Entrance Education for New Students. Professor Wang Qiangjun, Vice Dean of Law School, Professor of Criminal Law and Doctoral Supervisor, was invited as the keynote speaker of this lecture. The lecture was hosted by Zhang Jingjing, Undergraduate Academic Affairs teacher of the Law School.

Prof. Wang pointed out that as a law student, besides attaching importance to the acquirement of professional knowledge, one should also think of using legal thinking methods to analyze problems in real life. When becoming a legal practitioner, it is important to remember to "always stand on the side of justice", so that the practice of law is always warm and tender while maintaining restraint and rationality.

Referring to the relationship between theoretical learning and judicial practice, Prof. Wang believes that the learning of law cannot be separated from the memory of knowledge and the mastery of basic theories. "Integrate the study of law into cases in life, promote the study of law with cases, and promote the discovery of cases with law knowledge ",suggested by Prof. Wang.

Professor Wang compares legal practitioners to "doctors" who "diagnose" social problems. The slightest differences in the plots of different cases will result in differences in the judgment of conviction and sentencing. "Artificial intelligence lacks perceptual understanding", and it is difficult to make such complex decisions independently, but only as an aid and support for judicial judgment. The future of the legal profession is still bright.

After that, Prof. Wang talked about his suggestions on how to choose a research direction and set study goals from various perspectives, such as the balance between popular and unpopular legal departments, the balance between traditional and modern legal issues, the balance between domestic and foreign rule of law, and the balance between macro awareness and micro competence.

"To all my fellows, may legal issues be everywhere you look, and may you always stand on the side of justice, no matter how time passes!" At the end of the lecture, Prof. Wang once again sent a warm and hopeful message to the attending freshmen.
