On May 29, the opening ceremony of Nankai University TEDA Academy and Nankai Intelligence Forum were held at Lecture Hall in TEDA College. Gong Ke, the director of the Academic Committee of Nankai University, the executive director of China's New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy Research Institute, and the director of Xinchuang Haihe Laboratory, Tong Jiadong, the former vice president of Nankai University, Wang Changkun, the director of the Bureau of Science and Technology Innovation of the Economic and Technological Development Zone, leaders from Alumni Association and relevant department of the university, all attended the ceremony. Nearly 100 students and lecturers attended this event, including TEDA Academy tutors, the first AI training members of TEDA Academy.
In his speech, Gong Ke said TEDA Campus relies on Nankai University and Binhai New Area for its construction, and has always been at the forefront of reform and innovation. The establishment of TEDA Academy represents an innovative exploration of talent cultivation. The academy will serve as an essential bridge for collaboration and exchange between the University and various sectors in society, make contribution in talent cultivation, integration of Industry-University-Research and social service.
The representative of Philosophy School stated that TEDA Academy possesses benefits such as its location and interdisciplinary aspects，it should aim to be at the forefront of academia systems' development, serves as an engine for innovation and entrepreneurship within Binhai New Area, constantly enhance its social service capabilities, and aid in the transformation and progress of higher education. The TEDA College and Software College representative introduced the situation of TEDA Academy and stated that it will capitalize on its strengths, teaching benefits teachers as well as students, investigate in the mechanisms of platforms and entities, ensure continual operations, foster talent development with increased self-confidence, and establish unique teaching characteristics.
At the inauguration ceremony, Nankai University's TEDA Academy was established. Professor Gong Ke was appointed as the honorary dean of the academy, while Professor Zhang Yuzhi assumed the role of the first dean. Professor Zhang Yuzhi awarded the appointment letters to the tutors of the academy. Additionally, Professor Lin Runhui and Professor Zhang Haining awarded certificates to outstanding participants of the first AI training camp.
Afterward, Ms. Chang Ruihua, member of the American Academy of Engineering, and Professor Pan Qingzhong, the Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University's Schwarzman Scholars program, both sent congratulatory videos to the ceremony.
It is reported that TEDA Academy adheres to the concept of cross-disciplinary collaboration between teachers and students, global vision, and innovation. The academy is dedicated to cultivating students' abilities in discover, analyze, and solve problems, while promoting their innovation and entrepreneurship ability. This enhances the global vision and information sensitivity of both teachers and students, but also reinterprets and develops the teacher-student relationship in the new era. Additionally, the academy explores modes of school-enterprise coordination to cultivate students, incubates cutting-edge science and technology, and nurtures innovative and complex talents required for the growth of future industries. More than 50 members of the first AI training camp at TEDA Academy were enrolled from May 26 to 28. The camp organized various activities including enrolment ceremony, group discussions, AI development roundtable forum, project road show and enterprise visit.
