Department of Management Science and Engineering

Department of Management Science and Engineering evolves from the subject of "economic information management" in the Department of Business Administration founded in 1985. In 1997, it was combined with the subject of Information in Department of Information Resource Management to meet the requests of the Ministry of Education. Grounded in the two subject areas, the University formally founded a department the Department of Management Science and Engineering in 2005.

The department offers two undergraduate programs: Information Management & Information System, and Electronic Commerce. Both subjects aim to meet the demand of modern information society through dedicated efforts and provision of relevant and comprehensive knowledge. The program cultivates an educational style combining theories and practice, knowledge and ability, as well as classroom and society. Base on the abundant establishments in Nankai Business School, the department provides students important platforms and labs in Electronic Commerce, Enterprise Resource Planning, Communication and Networking, and Information System Development. More than 50% of the curriculums set for undergraduates are using these platforms to stay keen with practice. The department also set up exercitation bases in Petro China Company Limited, Tonsoft Corp., Ltd., Coca cola Corp., Ltd., and Tianjin Information Port Limited Company, etc.

At the postgraduate level, the department offers research-based programs leading to master and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) on the subject of Management Science and Engineering. The master degree program courses offer students the state-of-the-art subjects and cutting-edge technologies in the fields of management science, logistics and supply chain management, management information system and E-commerce. Fields of Specialization in the doctoral program include broader category, including logistics and supply chain management, management information system, stochastic decision and game theory, modeling and operations research, internet business model and operation, network organization and governance, technology and innovation management, and management system analysis.

The department has long-term ties with overseas leading universities and institutes. The department is a member of Management Science and Engineering Teaching Guide Committee of MOE and a director member of Electronic Commerce Collaboration Team for China Higher Education. It has a variety of research platforms, including the E-Business Lab, the NK-IBM SUR Lab and the Enterprise Resource Planning Lab.
