The School of Journalism and Communication launched the Appointment with Mentors – Afternoon Tea for Communication Between Teachers and students on the afternoon of November 30. Chen Ning, professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, shared her views on New Changes in News Writing in the Era of Convergence Media and Corresponding Countermeasures , expounded the changes and countermeasures of news writing in the era of convergence media from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Undergraduate and graduate students from the school participated in the symposium.
At the beginning of the lecture, Chen explained the core changes in journalism production in the era of convergence media, as well as the characteristics and changes of netizens’ reading news. Articles without considerate planning, material selection or form upgrade will definitely fail to attract the attention of today's netizens. Chen Ning took the People's Daily as an example to explain what effective news articles are: effective refers to the fact that news that can not only be understood, but also arouse readers' interest and leave an impression on them. An article which is seemingly easy for readers to understand is, as a matter of fact, uses refined and proven language. This requires journalism writers to pay attention to the depth, exclusivity and accurate reporting of facts, be capable of thinking independently, and voluntarily explore and report real and valuable news, so that readers can be informed within a short period of time.
Chen Ning reminded students to avoid news clichés without genuine emotions, or emphasis with a sense of hierarchy or instruction, or abstract and dull language in news writing. In the era of convergence media, appealing and creative news should be based on the use of a variety of media forms, constant learning and knowledge accumulation, improvement of professional competence and writing ability, disengagement from the constraints of traditional news writing methods, and write truly interesting, meaningful, proficient, and innovative news articles.
The event attracted a large number of students to participate, as it focused on subjects ranging from the changes in times to countermeasures. After Chen's lecture, the students gained a deeper understanding of the new changes in news writing in the era of convergence media, as well as valuable writing experience and methods.
