Chen Peng and Shen Wenhan's Metaverse:Historical Coordinates, Ontology and Applications - An Analysis from the Perspective of Marxism was published in Journalism & Communication, Issue 6 of 2023. The authors believe that from the perspective of Marxism, the metaverse is an extension of existing media history and arises under the conditions of existing media productivity. As a dialectical unity of the subjective and the objective worlds, the metaverse is an expanded form of media space built by consciousness and technology, and its virtual space relies on and serves the real world. The metaverse is closely related to media forms, network governance and digital economy. In the application of metaverse, problems such as utopianism and market speculation and irrational technological optimism such as meta utopia should be avoided, and its application should serve the value orientation of free and comprehensive development of human beings. While putting expectations on metaverse, it is necessary to retain criticism for this emerging field and reflect on issues such as subjectivity, materiality and digital order.

Mao Zedong's Vivid Practice on Strategic Communication and the Inspirations by Zhong Shenjun and Wang Hao was published in Journalism & Communication, Issue 12 of 2023. The authors argue that strategic communication is a mechanism and process by which the communication subject widely and deeply transmits information to the target audience through various channels and symbols to achieve specific strategic goals and then influence the audience’s attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. Chairman Mao was well versed in strategic planning, military strategy and publicity and communication, agile in integrating and skillfully applying the three, and therefore had abundant practice of strategic communication. In the process of implementing strategic communication, Chairman Mao, based on China's national conditions and reality, effectively conveyed his ideas, established a positive image, and rallied the people’s support. Meanwhile, Chairman Mao creatively extended the theory of Marxism publicity, revealed the basic laws and methods of publicity and communication, and developed a clear logical system. These practices still have important positive significance and inspiration for us in promoting the cross-cultural strategic communication along the Chinese path to modernization.
