The major of environmental science occupies the leading position in China and the world as a whole(ranking ninth in China  and among 51-75 in the QS international rankings in 2020).It is one of the first disciplines established in this field among comprehensive universities in China.Our discipline of environmental science was chosen as one of the four national key disciplines in 2001. In 2006, environmental science and engineering was rated as first-level key discipline of high education in Tianjin. It has multi-disciplinary faculty and sufficient instrument platforms. There are currently 102 full-time teachers and 39 professors (2 foreign professors, 5 NSFC distinguished Youth, 4 NSFC excellent Youth, and  Academician Liu Jiaqi as Visiting Professor and Academician Wang Hao as part-time professors/doctoral supervisors of Nankai University). It undertakes more than 30 major scientific research projects each year, with a total funding of 100 million RMB. It also has advanced large-scale instrument equipment platforms such as TEM、ICP-MS、GC-MS (about 60 million RMB), and sufficient scientific and experimental resources. The fourth round of discipline assessment is A-. Currently, there are four advantageous research directions including environmental monitoring and environmental chemistry, ecology and health toxicology, regional pollution chemistry research, and cross-medium pollution control，with good employment prospects.
